i toss and i turn over something
"there's nothin i hate more than nothin"
edie brickell

here's something to consider. imagine the world of memes becoming sentient and 3 dimensional. mark pesce ended his presentation at Mindstates conference with a view of sentient memes breaking free from the human bodies they are using to accomplish their ends.

jaron lanier, of virtual reality fame ended his presentation with a similar notion, except that it happens in cyberspace. a realm where the unhinged imagination is able to manifest any idea or concept for immediate transference. essentailly it would become a complete anything goes zone.

both of the concepts imply a level of independence of ideas from their "owners". ha. the idea of us believing that our ideas are our own seems to be headed towards some challenging territory in the future.

the question becomes: are we our bodies or our ideas? are our ideas themselves sentient, with their own agendae. and if so, what are we? if we exist as organized systems of memeory and intelligence stored in our bodies, then what happens when the intelligence no longer needs the body to manifest? will we dissolve. will we morph into whatever shape we wish? will we have to face unreal horrendous demons that surface from the depths of our tortured psyches?

virtual reality is the interim path towrds a magikal sort of instant manifestation of ideas. storing ideas in crystal indeed seemed a magikal concept a couple centuries ago. now we use it in ever increasingly complex ways to organize light and create worlds of our imagination. the future of this realm offers huge potential to an unchained mind.

edie brickell also sang about knowing what she knew (if you know what she means). i think that in a future where thoughts free themsleves from limited minds, that knowing what you know will become immensely significant and being able to clear your mind will be crucial. dont want any 1000 legged terror dragons to be marching thru your room at night. nothin i hate more than nightmares being terrifyingly real.

in the future of human culture we head towards a realm of unlimited potential. how will we meet the challenge?
